The Butler Family

There are some families that are just special beyond description.  The Butlers are just that.  We originally got to know their family through the music department when we went to college at Westmont, but over the years have come to call them of some of our dearest friends.  They have some of the most special children who we've gotten to see grow up and having known them for about 6 years now, we've had the absolute privilege of seeing their family grow from having two sweet boys to a family of five kids! Earlier this month Chris was able to do some family photos with them and we just had to share some pictures we got of their sweet family!

First though, I couldn't resist posting this photo taken at our wedding in 2005 - John, Nicholas, and Anna Grace were all in our wedding.  Little Elizabeth was too small to walk, and Maria wasn't even born yet, which is why she isn't pictured here! (Thanks for the picture, DJ!)

They have all gotten so big since then!  Here's Nicholas - the second oldest who is just cute beyond belief and full of energy! He has such a big heart and I still can't believe how grown up he is!

Here's Anna Grace, who is the third in line of the five kids- she is probably the most joyful, free-spirited little girl I know.  Her happiness is contagious and she just melts my heart. (Don't you love her crown?!)

Here's John - the oldest of the kids, who is truly wise beyond his years.  As silly and playful as he is, he is one of the most gentle, smart, and thoughtful boys I've ever seen.  Though I miss the days when he'd come cuddle in my lap with me at Church, it is so special to see him growing up!

Elizabeth is the second youngest.  Like her sister, she is so joyful and I love these pictures because she's belting out a song! She is so full of spirit and joy!

And last, but certainly not least is beautiful Maria who was just born in April! Here she is with her wonderful mom :)

Mark and Niki's Engagement!

Last week I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with Mark and Niki who are getting married next month in Pasadena, CA.  We hit it off from the start and not only did we have a great time shooting around Old Town Pasadena, but we also had some fantastic conversations both before and after our shoot.

Beautiful Wedding at Caramoor in New York!

A little over a week ago, after Chris and I shot Diana and Mike's engagement session in NYC,  we drove up about an hour north to photograph Jen and Marco's gorgeous wedding on Saturday.  They had their ceremony and reception at an absolutely stunning venue called Caramoor - this is definitely one of Chris and my favorites spots to date.  You feel as though you're in a beautiful garden - it's just stunning!

The wedding was so special for many reasons - Jen and Marco are two of the most gentle, welcoming people and they have such sweet and kind spirits. Being a part of their day with them and their families was an honor.  Both of them come from incredibly special families and Chris and I felt so privileged to spend the day with all of them! 

On top of that, Carrie and Kristin from Lyndsey Hamilton Events were there to coordinate the day, and truly they are two of our most favorite people to work with!  They have such a great attention to detail and helped everything go flawlessly - each year, Chris and I look forward to the events we get to do with them, and this day was no exception! They made our job easy! :)

We started out with Jen getting ready at her parent's beautiful home - we had such fun with her and the bridesmaids!

We headed over to Caramoor with everyone and there were some great moments before the ceremony started!

Jen was absolutely beautiful and  so calm and collected before the ceremony!

Getting to do portraits with Jen and Marco was such fun- they were both so relaxed, so obviously in love, and the grounds at Caramoor were gorgeous!

The reception, also at Caramoor, was perfect - Jen and Marco have such elegant taste and everything from the flowers to menus to the place settings were just gorgeous! The beautiful greenery inside the tent made it feel like we were all still outside!

Jen and Marco, we hope you two had a WONDERFUL trip to Costa Rica!! Thanks so much for including us in your day - it was such a joy!! :)  You two have such a special connection with each other and it was wonderful seeing how in love you two are. We hope we'll get to see you when we're out in NY on another trip!

A Rainy Engagement Session in NYC!

Last weekend, before Chris and I shot a beautiful wedding in NY (which we'll be blogging very soon!) we had the chance to meet up with Diana and Mike to shoot their engagement session!  We first talked to Diana and Mike this past winter - they are planning their beautiful wedding at Oheka Castle for this November, so we were so excited to finally meet them!  Unfortunately, the weather that day wasn't looking promising and the rain continued for the entire day but we decided to shoot that afternoon anyway. The afternoon was great though and Diana showed up looking absolutely adorable in her raincoat and the two of them were such great sports about getting wet!  We ended up having a wonderful time and awesome shoot, despite being a little wet!
We started out right at 5th Ave near Central Park!

They were even willing to do a few without the umbrella!

Diana and Mike, thanks so much for being such fun to shoot with, despite a little rain!! We can't tell you how excited we are for your wedding in November!! :)

Ariella & Kevin's Jekyll Island Wedding!

Last weekend, Chris and I had the incredible pleasure of traveling out to Jekyll Island, GA to photograph Ariella and Kevin's beautiful wedding!  Ariella went to the same college as Chris and I did, and so it was fun to see old friends who were guests and in their bridal party!  Ariella and Kevin had their wedding at the Jekyll Island Club, which was absolutely stunning - I had never been to Georgia before and the Club was a beautiful first visit!  Chris and I actually rented bikes the day before the wedding and rode around the island and just loved how peaceful it was - the island is very quiet and just gorgeous. The Jekyll Island Club has an amazing history and the grounds there are absolutely beautiful.  Plus, I'm not used to being offered grits for breakfast, so that in itself was quite an experience :)

The first day we were there, we walked around the grounds and it was an absolutely beautiful day!

Ariella was absolutely stunning and I loved this picture as she was getting her dress on -

Chris and I had actually never met Kevin prior to their wedding day, but he was a pro in front of the camera from the moment we started shooting! :)

A few minutes before the ceremony started, Ariella waited in the back of the Church before the with her dad before they went down the aisle.  Photographing a bride with her dad right before the ceremony is always one of my favorite parts of the day, and was particularly special with Ariella and her dad. They have such an obvious bond and it was a very sweet, quiet few moments before the ceremony started.

After the ceremony, we headed back over to the Jekyll Island Club and did some pictures with them on the grounds there -

Ariella and Kevin's reception was in a garden area, right next to Crane Cottage, one of the beautiful buildings at the Jekyll Island Club.   A HUGE word of thanks goes to Ashley from Events By Caroline - she coordinated the entire day, and everything from the ceremony to the reception details was absolutely perfect. Ashley helped make our job easy because everything went so smoothly, so a huge thank you goes to her! :)

There was a fantastic band at the reception and I loved some of the images we caught of everybody dancing!

This was such a fun cake cutting picture - I love all of her bridesmaids cheering for them in the background!

Ariella and Kevin, we are so excited for you two to start your life together and we were honored to be a part of your day!! Thanks for showing us such a gorgeous part of Georgia! :)

Kery and Stacie's Big day!

Though our lack of blogging may lead you to believe otherwise, we haven't fallen off the planet :) Rather, we have just been staying busy!  We've been home working as we prepare for all of the great weddings we have lined up for this year and enjoying Spring! 

We leave tomorrow for a wedding in Jekyll Island, GA that we're so excited about, but in the meantime, we wanted to catch up and share some images from Kery and Stacie's beautiful wedding that we shot on May 2nd at Red Rock Country Club in Las Vegas, NV!  We first met up with Kery and Stacie in February this year, and we had an absolute blast during their engagement session! We knew these two would be such fun to photograph on their wedding day, and the day turned out to be perfect!

Of course, Kery didnt look too bad either.  :)

Kery and the groomsmen were such fun to shoot with during the day and were always laughing and having a great time - I loved this moment as they were all sitting around and talking before the ceremony-

During the Ketubah signing, one of Kery's groomsmen made a joke with the Rabbi and everybody burst out laughing!

The ceremony was inside at the country club and looked absolutely beautiful.

The details of the reception were just as beautiful as the ceremony!

Kery and Stacie looked so sweet together during their first dance!

The evening was filled with LOTS of dancing, and one of the highlights later in the night was Kery's groomsmen giving an impromptu performance for the crowd! :)

Fun feature on Elizabeth Anne Designs!

Two days ago, Ami from Elizabeth Anne Designs  let us know that they had featured Chris and Vanessa's wedding on their fabulous wedding blog!  We just love the EAD blog- it's full of great resources, inspiration, and even some DIY tricks!  This is definitely a must-read blog if you're planning a wedding, (or if you just are like me and enjoy looking at all things weddings :)

Chris and Vanessa were two of our wonderful clients in 2008 who have become friends of ours and so we were thrilled to see some of their pictures featured!

Our interview on F-Stop Beyond!

Last summer, Chris and I were fortunate enough to work with Ron Dawson to capture a Behind the Scenes video (well, actually two videos!) of the two of us working together.  (If you haven’t seen them already, you can check them out here and here! )

We really enjoyed making these videos earlier in 2008, and when Ron later asked us this winter if we would do an interview with him for F-Stop Beyond, we were honored!

F-Stop Beyond is a great show that features podcasts of interviews with photographers that go beyond business and shooting, and really delve into who these photographers are as people.  Chris and I were really honored to share about what it’s like to work together, how we “accidentally” wound up in photography, and what goes on behind the scenes when working at home :)

F-Stop Beyond

1st Place WPJA

Katie and I are totally humbled and honored to have placed 1st place in the most recent WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) contest for Ceremony images!

Not only did we place first in that contest, but we also placed 10th and 11th for Creative Portrait contest!

Thanks so much Mike and Janelle (top image), as well as Nicole and Lee (second image) and Chris and Vanessa (final image) for allowing us to play a role in capturing their days and giving us the creative freedom to create these images!
